Convenience sake

I want to move to Germany just to have this.  Click English version in lower left to read more, or read it in german if you are up to the challenge.

Slow morning at work, waiting on others to proceed.  Have found some of the best bands today.  Leeland http://www.myspace.com/leelandmusic  is probably my favorite so far.

Not really listening to B yet, will download tonight I think, if CBAG doesn't have it.

Beasley wants to be Wildcat

Monday, Jun 26, 2006
Kansas State University
Highly rated basketball recruit makes oral commitment to K-State.
By HOWARD RICHMAN
The Kansas City Star
With all due respect to such players as Rolando Blackman and Mitch Richmond, Michael Beasley very easily could be considered the most highly touted recruit in Kansas State men’s basketball history.
But for how long?
Beasley — the No. 4-rated basketball player in the 2007 class by rivals.com — made a non-binding oral commitment over the weekend to K-State, rivals.com main scout Jerry Meyer confirmed Saturday.
That’s good news for the Wildcats. Meyer, though, said it could get even better. Bill Walker, rated No. 2 for 2007, might be next for K-State.
“I think K-State is feeling pretty good about its chances of getting Bill Walker,” Meyer said of the 6-foot-5 forward from Cincinnati.
The Wildcats, however, might not be as fortunate in their quest to land No. 1. That’s O.J. Mayo, the 6-4 dynamo who is Walker’s teammate and the most heralded high school player heading into the 2006-07 season.
“That might be the toughest one to get. I’m not saying this, but the word is that he’s not as excited about playing ball in Manhattan, Kan.,” Meyer said. “It’s not Southern California, and I know he’s interested in USC.”
Meyer says there are other options for the Wildcats, a major player on the recruiting scene since Bob Huggins became coach.
That includes the pursuit of Herb Pope, the No. 10-rated player. Pope, a 6-8 forward from Aliquippa, Pa., seems to be a good bet to end up at K-State.
“They’re in there strong with Herb Pope,” Meyer said.
Also, keep an eye on 6-7 DeJuan Blair of Pittsburgh, who Meyer said could eventually crack rivals’ top 100. Meyer said K-State already has offered him a scholarship.
“He’s not an elite player like Beasley, but he will be a good college player,” Meyer said.
As for Beasley, his oral commitment to K-State isn’t a stunner. Although he committed in September 2004 to Charlotte, that changed when assistant Dalonte Hill, who coached Beasley at the AAU level, left there to join Huggins’ staff.
In April, Beasley told The Star he hadn’t officially altered his commitment, but his comments were very revealing.
“Coach Huggins and Coach Hill want to try to win a national championship,” said Beasley, who in May backed off the Charlotte commitment. “We plan on making Kansas State like Duke or North Carolina.”

Culture Shock

Are you sitting down? Most of you who know me will terribly surprised at the following information. I attended the Country Stampede...No there was not a gun to my head, my children were not being threatened by a madman, I went of my own volition. Free will is an amazing thing, sometimes it is not so free. So I got these 4 tickets to Stampede at work and gave them to 3 people I know who really enjoy Country music. It didn't work for the one friend to go Saturday night, and Katie was too wiped out from the weekend to want to go Sunday, so rather than have Kim not go, or go alone, I volunteered to go with. We had Church, then a meeting at 5 so we didn't get out there until about 7. Terri Clark started playing at 8. People where leaving like crazy as we were pulling in and that did not seem like a good sign, but yet we paid our 10.00 for parking and entered. CS is held in the river pond area of Tuttle Creek State lake and it is beautiful there, but my first shot upon arrival was a line of about 30 port-a-potties that emmitted an interesting aroma. I was thinking that this was not a very good set up for the crowd to see as they arrived to the event from a marketing viewpoint, but then soon realized that very few people who attend the CS actually would care. I am not even sure how many of them actually used the "facilities" with so many trees around.
Terri Clark is an interesting young lady. She can actually play the guitar fairly well and though I did not appreciate the genre much I did appreciate her lead guitarist and really all of her support musicians, except for the steel guitarist. This would be the crux of why I dislike contry music so much-the twang of that steel guitar. But her message was probably what bothered me the most. She said she left home for Nashville at 18 and it's been a party ever since. She encouraged binge dinking and getting drunk "for the hell of it". Not the message I really wanted a bunch of impressonable teens to hear as they were preparing to drive home for the night. But Terri Clark probably had no more influence on the crowd than any of the musicians, or vendors. Just some random thoughts on the Country Stampede from my one and ONLY participation.
I mentioned that Katie was tired from her track meet. She (we) sat in Overland Park all day Saturday, from 7:30 am to 5pm and she didn't even get to throw the discus, it was rained out. One of the most ineffciently run meets I have ever been to. I have told some friends that The Overland Park Track Club owes me a Saturday. I would like to take it tomorrow.
Exciting things happening witht the church. We are proceeding with the bulding and hope to have a new multi-purpose area built by winter. Yeah baby. Basketball, rock climbing wall.
Still kind of wondering what my role at church is now. Still have that burden for people struggling in homosexuality and past abuse relationships. I think you would be amazed to realize have many people have been molested, abused or raped as children. I know I am.
Anne jackson has a great article in relavant magazine this month on women and pornongraphy. I will try to add the link a little later today. http://relevantmagazine.com/
Have a blessed day, much love,
s
